Vintage Comic Postcard – “On the Rocks at Yarmouth” – 1924

A humorous vintage seaside postcard featuring a cheeky illustration of a man sitting on rocks in the sea, wearing red-and-white striped bathing trunks, while a woman swims nearby.

The caption reads: “I'm on the rocks, and without a shirt to my back AT YARMOUTH.” The playful wording combines the seaside setting with a joke about being “on the rocks” and having nothing to wear.

The illustration is signed Donald McGill, the well-known British comic postcard artist. The reverse identifies the Inter-Art Co., Florence House, Barnes, S.W., and the “COMIQUE” Series, with reference number 43741.

This example was posted from Great Yarmouth on 28 August 1924, making it an appealing piece of early twentieth-century seaside humour and British postcard history.
