Vintage Postcard – Westbury White Horse, Wiltshire – Sheep in the Foreground

Vintage photographic postcard showing the Westbury White Horse on the chalk hillside of Salisbury Plain, Wiltshire. A large flock of sheep fills the foreground, with the famous white horse visible on the hillside beyond.

The printed description explains that the White Horse commemorates Alfred the Great's victory over the Danes at Ethandun (Edington) in AD 878. It also describes the horse's position on the chalk downs and gives historical measurements of the figure.

Published by R. Wilkinson & Co., Trowbridge. The reverse has a handwritten message and address, together with a George V 1d red stamp.
